Work > Cartography

The term cartography is seemingly fitting for this series of paintings because they use the visual language of maps. They contain lines that twist and turn like roadways, rivers, or divides. Those lines define spaces like land mass separated into territories. Yet these paintings do not map any place in the known universe. This series of works seeks to use cartography as method of way finding and as a means of discovery. Discovery of connections that form and separate, memories that twist and change, desires that pull and stretch with yearning, or thoughts that fold into each other or fall loose and haphazardly drift away. Through the act of mapping, these things take shape and find visual manifest in the work.
